Improvements for Data Loggers & Power/Energy Meters

AEMC Instruments has released an update for their Dataview Windows software package. This software is used to configure, view, and download data from many of their data loggers and power/energy meters including the PEL series, Simple Logger II series, DL913/914 Models, L452 logger, and the CL407/607 clamp-on meters.

The changes include:

Updates to a number of the instrument drivers to address USB connection issues.

For the PEL Series, several enhancements to the status screen and control panel. Numerous bug fixes including issues with display of DC real-time values and on-line help.

The updated software supports both Windows 10 (32 and 64-bit versions) and Windows 11 Pro. It requires a minimum of 2 GB of RAM on Windows 10, 32-bit, or 4 GB of RAM on Windows 10, 64-bit, or Windows 11. It also needs 5 GB of disk space to install the full version with support for the PEL/Powerpad instruments on Windows 10 or 50 GB of space on Windows 11; only 200 MB is required if not installing the PEL/Powerpad support files.

There are 2 ways to get the AEMC update.

Update from within the Dataview program. The easiest way is to start the Dataview software, go to the Help menu and select “Update”. It will download and install the new software.

If for some reason this does not work, you can download the new version of the software from the AEMC website at:

https://www.aemc.com/resources/DataviewDirectDownload.cfm

There is an executable version that will install itself or a zip file that can be manually downloaded and installed.

TR71A/72A Firmware Update Tool – Version 1.18 Or Lower

Some operations of the battery level warning have been revised.
– Revised battery warning recovery criteria to avoid sending low battery warnings repeatedly. – Changed the state of the battery warning sent when a low battery recovery has occurred from 1 (normal) to 81 (recovery to normal). – Changed the specifications for sending any untransmitted battery warnings when low battery recovery has occurred.

Added functionality to send the state of Warning Lifted (state:82) when the warning settings have been changed, the recording has been started, or the device has been reset while in a warning state.

Functionality was added whereby if upon recovery from a sensor error, an upper/lower limit warning is still active, the status (state:83) will be sent.
When sending data via a proxy server, the connection is now made using a hostname instead of an IP address. (White list compatible)

Previously command processing was aborted when the response from an HTTP server was R=0 (command rejected). Processing has now been modified so that a request is issued for the command specified by the flag contained in the response.

How to Re-Add Your IrDA Device to Windows 11

Microsoft recently removed the IrDA feature from Windows 11. It is easy to re-add this feature if you need to use an IrDA dongle. The following steps will add the feature and allow the IrDA device to properly install the device drivers and start the device operation.

Open the Windows 11 settings page.

Select “Apps” on the settings page.

3. Click on “Optional Features” in the left-hand column of the window.

4. Click “View Features” in the “Add an optional feature” line.

5. In the list that appears, choose “IrDA infrared.”

After the IrDA feature is added, go into the Windows 11 device manager and make sure the drivers for your device are properly installed, and that the device is started. If there are any issues with the device itself, make sure the right driver is installed, and reboot your PC. After that, everything should work for you.

While this has been known to be coming for some time, there has been pushback from equipment providers like home and business security systems to extend the data to allow them to get new equipment in place. However the end is here, and the major carriers will perform the 3G sunset on the following dates:

AT&T: February 28

Sprint: March 31

T-Mobile: July 1

Verizon: December 31

If you have an older data logger that uses either a cell modem to transmit data such as the TandD RTR-500MBS, DataTaker DT8x-M Series 3, or a data logger with an external cell modem, you may find that it stops working unexpectedly due to 3G sunset. If you don’t know what technology your device uses, a quick way to find out is to look for a label on the device or modem with the “FCC ID. ” This is an identifier that is required for any cellular equipment. Go to the FCC site, FCC ID.io, and look up the ID to find out more information about which cellular networks, 3G, 4G, LTE, etc. the device supports. Don’t wait until it stops working! We can help you find a migration path forward for the 3G sunset. This will ensure that you can continue to receive data.

Added iOS and Android Support for Push Alarm Notifications

On September 17, 2021, TandD announced a long-awaited feature update to their T&D Thermo App for both iOS and Android users. In this Version 2.2 Update, background push notifications have now been enabled to send alarm warnings from the WebStorage Service to your mobile device. Please note, this is a separate function and will not replace the email notifications that the WebStorage Service sends out for warning notifications. You will need to confirm that both your phone and the T&D Thermo App have “Background Refresh” enabled in order for this new feature to function properly.

This Version 2.2 update also added support for TandD’s recently released TR-7A series of loggers. The new TR-71A temperature data logger is perfect for refrigerators and freezers with dual probes, built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB communications, and a vaccine mode to provide CDC VFC compliant monitoring.

In addition to the new push notifications and TR-7A series support, there is a number of other new enhancements to the app:

Added a function to create a PDF report of data downloaded using Bluetooth or WLAN Direct Communication

Added a function to output log and settings from the Settings Table Screen

Added a function to immediately communicate with T&D WebStorage Service by swiping down at the Top screen

You can read more about Version 2.2 by clicking here and scrolling to the Revision History.
